You’re probably thinking, Is This Lady for REAL!
What does a clean house have to do with feelings of accomplishment?
Although I do clean my house on a somewhat daily/weekly basis, it was more of a quick spot clean. Less than 10 minutes.
I do deep clean on a monthly but always felt like THAT was the only time my house actually felt clean.
Mind you, I no longer have children at home to make messes – unless you count the man child- but I do have 3 fur doggies who like to drop hair like it’s hot!
So What’s The Hangup?
My monthly deep cleaning just wasn’t cutting it for me. In my minds eyes, once a month deep cleaning wasn’t what my mother had taught me. And therefore left me feeling like I was a slacker in the housekeeping department.
Growing up both my parents worked and EVERY weekend my mother spent cleaning, dusting, moping, vacuuming, doing laundry, ironing ( yes, she ironed – just about everything- sans socks, underroos, etc.) she even ironed my dads handkerchiefs!
And, we had extra people living with us on top of us 3. She’d do laundry for them also!
There’s More To Clean Than I Care To Admit Too
Plus let’s not forget the daily evening meal with enough food left over for lunches the next day. There was 5-6 people in our household and with the exception of me, they all worked so that meant they all needed dinner and lunches for work the next day.
The dishes that accumulated was nothing to laugh at. By the way, did I mention my mother hates (to this day) dishwashers! So all dishes were done by hand.
Any ways, I digress on my cleaning hang-up.
For the record – I REFUSE to be like my mother in the cleaning department. Although I still hear her when I’m spot cleaning. She doesn’t really approve, but that’s OK.
I just can’t get over the monthly cleaning and letting it go completely.
Although I am getting better at it. I’ve accepted that for me and my season of life I’m living, my monthly cleaning and my daily/weekly spot cleaning are good enough and THAT’S ALL that matters.
I still have a long way to go to shut out the voice in my head that seems to echo in my ears, especially when I’m doing the spot cleaning.
And even if feeling accomplished only comes by once a month I’m OK with it.
